Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.0.2 update for OnePlus 5T halted, OnePlus rolling out a revised version

Last week,
OnePlus introduced
OxygenOS 5.0.2 – the first Oreo-based version of its custom
Android overlay – to the
OnePlus 5T. The software upgrade brought a plethora of new features, but many users in India were left bemused by the inclusion of Mkey, a multi-use SMS/keyboard app that required a suspicious amount of permissions and gathered a lot of user data.

Possibly in response to customer concerns, OnePlus is now rolling out a revised variant of the update as OxygenOS version 5.0.3. The changelog of the new patch is nearly identical to the previous one, but the official forum thread mentions fixes for system stability issues and the fact that Mkey is not a part of the new patch. Here’s the complete list:

1. System

  • Upgraded Android version to Oreo (8.0)
  • New design for Quick Settings
  • General bug fixes and improvements
  • Applied CPU security patch: CVE-2017-13218

2. Applications

  • Updated Launcher to v2.2
  • Updated Gallery to v2.0
  • Updated Weather to v1.9
  • Updated File Manager to v1.7.6
  • Fixed system stability issues

Although not mentioned in the changelog, this update should also bring Oreo features like parallel apps, picture-in-picture mode, as well as improvements to auto-fill and smart text selection. OnePlus says that the OTA will reach a small number of devices today. A broader rollout is expected in the coming days.
